I have seen hard locks with linux-2.2.6-SMP.
When I copy much files from one location to an other, for example
cp -rd /usr/lib /tmp
the system locks up. No response to any keypress (including SYSREQ :-().
This happens with and without X11.
My hardware:
ASUS-P2L97-DS with 2x233 PII (including adaptec aic7990)
Diamond Monster Fusion AGP
2xIBM-DCAS 4GB SCSI disks. (Both are used by this copy mentioned above)
Ok, some notes:
- I have tried various compilers including the bad old GCC-2.7.2.3.
This locks depend not on the compiler used for compiling the kernel.
- Linux-2.2.5 works great for me.
- I have tried Linux-2.2.7-3. This one locks too. (I had not the time
for more tests ...)
Can someone help? Does someone have an idea?
If you need more information drop me a message.
