I am wondering if anyone else has a soundblaster AWE 64 value
card (ISA) and is running a 2.2.x SMP machine with it
successfully? My system hangs, and I want to know if it is my
system or the kernel?

If you need a .config or whatever to try to recreate this let me
know.

I have a DUAL P 233 MMX machine with a tyan tomcat IV
motherboard. This setup worked under RH 5.2 and kernel 2.0.36,
but now under RH6.0 and 2.2. it does not.

If I compile a kernel with sound and SMP DISABLED then my sound
works fine, I can play wave files and play midi file and nothing
seems to go wrong. If I compile that same kernel setup only
enabling the SMP (the make menuconfig option) then I run that
kernel I can play midi files with playmidi -a and it seems to do
okay, but as soon as I play a wave file it hangs. I tried
enabling magic keys and they do not even work when the system
freezes. I have to hit the reset switch and reboot the machine,
and then it runs fsck.

How do I get more info on what is happening with the system at
the time of the freeze? How do I fix it.

I tried running ksymoops and it is not an oops, or I was running
ksymoops wrong.

I can easily recreate it.

Currently I am using 2 kernels one SMP without sound and one
none SMP with sound. But would rather just use one.

Any help, suggestions, questions, comments, anything at all
would be greatly appreciated.

Also I noticed that when I boot a SMP kernel with SOUND
DISABLED, and the boot scripts are setup to load my sound
modules that the get loaded and the SMP machine may try to play
a sound. I have edited my boot scripts so check if I have an SMP
machine (if [`uname -v|awk '{print $2}'` = SMP]; then ) and this
will diable sound, but I think that this is a SMP sound related
bug.
