Hi! I see in the code that apm=smp-power-off should tell APM not to completely disable itself but to allow that hack. For some reason, it doesn't work for me. It doesn't power down the machine after writing System halted. I have sysvinit debian package version 2.73, kernel 2.2.9 and ASUS P2B-DS motherboard. Besides normal shutdown -h, I've also tryed halt -p. I recompiled sysvinit package version 2.76 and used halt from there to make sure the right system call is made but it didn't work.
