I disagree - and I do have to deal with nearly all of the operating
systems out there. having runtime parameters to configure a system is a great
thing - if you don't want the defaults, just change it during boot time.
allocating 450MB shared memory is NOT the default behavior for 95% of all
projects, right?
as I understand, you're discussing here about 1 line of code, to be placed
either in a startup script for your project or - if you want - in a startup
script executed during the boot sequence, right???
btw.: trabant was not a sovjet car, it was as german as
the mercedes you mentioned below!
sometimes it's about the details... ;-)
