No there wasn't.  Linux 2.0.3x and earlier (until 2.0.36) could not
autodetect more than 64mb...but would happily use more memory if you told
it how much you had.  I had 1.2.x systems with 128mb.  It does get tricky
if you want to use more than around 900mb of memory with 2.0.3x, but even
that is doable.
