In order to maximize the amount of memory available for processes on my quad
(500mhz xeon p3's) I applied Alan Cox's kernel patch which you can get from
ftp.linux.org.uk. My linux-smp machine has 2GB of memory and after applying
the Cox patch to the kernel provided with the redhat 6.0 distribution
(2.2.10) an individual process can now allocate about 1300MB. Apparently
this can be increased somewhat by further patching but I haven't gone there
yet.
If anyone knows how to get this limit larger I, for one, would like to hear
about it.
Thanks to Alan Cox!

Subject: Max Memory?
Greetings all,
I was just curious what the maximum amount of RAM linux will support is?
Currently we are going to upgrade our servers to 1 GB, but it would be
useful to know if it supports more than that, since our boxen can hold up to
4GB each.
