     A few years ago when AMD released there K5 (I think) AMD
and cyrix had created there own SMP standard.
     So I upgraded my system to a DUAL Intel P-233 MMX system.

    Probably there same standard as back then which is not
supported by any motherboards.

    Well first let me say thanks all.

    Next, I did check out compaq's site, and for an SINGLE Alpha
500Mhz workstation there asking about $9500 roughly.

<IMHO>
   Lastly, This makes no sense! I thought the Alpha's were
supposed to in some sense compete with Intel? If this is the
case they are doing a poor job.
   If AMD wanted to really compete with Intel, why don't they
create a motherboard that supports there standard of SMP or
contract someone to do so? They could run benchmarks against
Intel SMP of same speeds. Of course they need an OS that would
support that, and I am sure that Linux could do the job very
well (with some changes, but they have the source).
   It seems to me that these companies like Sun, Compaq/DEC, and
AMD, like to shoot themselves in the foot. By making things that
are 5 times as expensive as a 'same speed' Intel, they loose.
   And the SMP winner is Intel.. price/performance...
</IMHO>
