I used Mandrake 6 kernel 2.2.9 I believe. It would panic sometimes at warm
boot. I couldn't get it to work with an SMP kernel and went back to a
2.0.3x kernel as it worked fine on Mandrake 5.3 which was installed when I
got it. I install RH5.2 since that's what all my other boxes are running
and no problem (other than this).
I'll probably just stay with the 2.0.3x kernel for a while, I still don't
want to learn ipchains, I'm lazy..opps I meant to say busy (laugh)
Since the processor shows properly during boot time can I be safe to assume
that the processor is working and the usage reporting is incorrect?
The machine seems to work well, it didn't report any errors using -j300,
like another fella mentioned his did with that much load.
If I have a dead processor, wouldn't there be errors showing that it isn't
responding or something? If there isn't, maybe there should be.
Thanks for all the idea's, I'm finding this list very friendly, good job.
BTW: I am finding the list a little slow, take's about an hour for a post
to show. Any ideas?
have fun,

hmmm you may waaant to try 2.0.35 and use the procps patch on that kernel
first and then patch the 2.0.35 to 2.0.36 and then to 2.0.37 and see if
that
works... I used to use that patch with no problems, but I only have 2 CPU's
incedentally what 2.2.x kernel did you try and when did it panic? there
were
some problems with certian versions..also you'd need to upgrade some of the
programs on your RH 5.2 system to get 2.2 kernels to work correctly..
