Actually, when the problem started occurring, I didn't run an application
that uses kernel threads (I used the single-threaded version of kaffe).
After the problems had started, and the machine repeatedly froze for
minutes at a time, the problem could be triggered by pretty much any
application. It looks to me as though one CPU may have been in a
messed up state and wasn't responding to IPIs anymore.
