Dear all:

I have used the time command to measure the user time spent by my program,
running on a dual-PIII machine with kernel 2.2.13.

If I repeat the run, I get a hugely different value for user time from run
to run, all the program output is identical of course.

For example:

3790.96 user
3876.62 user
3312.93 user

This makes optimizing the code very difficult ...

Is this a known problem? Does time not work on SMP machines? If so, what
can I do to measure user time?

Many thanks, Jan.
