Yes, but I did it After building mine ( otherwyse I would have been too shy
and I would have waited , waited ... and never tried to do SMP : to me it
is better to try to do SMP on a dual Celeron with Pthreads and the like
than to daydream of a dual PIII or dual Athlon if it comes one day (
actually a lot of friends are laughing at me with my dual Celeron telling
me that with 128Kb of cache it is a real poor performer but the mos
important is to do it not to dream about it ))

Yes they are really good, I can code ( I am a CS student after all ) but I
wonder if I will be able to reach theyr level one day.

Nice trick but as I have put what is for me a lot of money into it I won't
verclock it and as long as it is not broken I will not fix it ( actually
this week end I plan to write to version of the mandelbrot program one
normal and one multithreaded )

Yes I live in Paris France, the fan came with the Celeron's they are the
one in the Intel's Boxes, I guess they are OK foe normal use, the grease
comes from an electronic shop ( you know where you buy kits for a
stroboscobe and the like, nice place to shop for my wearable project too )
It is a French made but ou may find the same kind of stuff everywhere I
guess. There is a translation of what is written on it " Heat evacuation
paste with silicones , protect from humidity and mechanical shoks. Use from
-40C to +200C "

I brought a tower case with two more fans ( thre was already one in the
front panel ) I placed the fans ( same electronic shop, ball bearing fans (
I am not rich enough to afford to buy cheap fans ) in order to have a good
air flow ( the two back side fans are pushing the air into the case, the
power supply fan and the frontal one are pulling it out of the case).

The disk system is whole SCSI ( A choice I made 4 years ago based on
technical analysis : to me at that time the SCSI drives where more
reliable, plus SCSI doesn't overload my CPU and it accepts
simultaneous request ( oups my English is very bad ), as usual friends
laugh at me : I pay more for less capacity but I believe I am right.)

controller AHA2940UW ( last year I was still using my old 1542 ), disks :
1Gb Fast
4.5 UW
9.1 U2W
CDROM : Plextor 4x ( yes it is a very old one bus as long as it works )
CDWriter Plextor 4/2/20 ( for the backups )

Video controller :
Matrox Mystique ( I plan to buy a GeForce based one when the prices will
have droped, thus I will be able to do OpenGL/Mesa in good conditions )

NetGear 10/100 network card
US robotics Modem

and a Miro PCTV video card.

Linux distributions :
Debian ( most of the time )
Suse ( I need to know some commercial products but If I could run Debian
only )

I hope this will help you.

Yes, I would like to know How it performs and how do you experiment with it
( the first night I played with gimp 1.1 because it is multithreaded in
order to see the improvement )
what algoritms are you testing ...

What I like best is the way it handles the load.
