Hello,
I purchased about two months ago
a motherboard and 2 CPUs at the
computer show, all together for US $300.

Motherboard Stallion M668DS,
CPUs are Pentium II, 266.

Memory is 128MB 60ns dimm, and 64MB 10ns dimm (non EC).

Basically when I ran Linux 2.2.12, 2.3.31, 2.3.33, or FreeBSD 3.3
or NT 4.0 SP5, the computer freezes. No mouse movement and I
cannot ping it.

I upgraded the BIOS on the motherboard to version 5. But the
problem still persists. At first I thought it happens
when doing intensive video (or just running XFree),
but no, I get it when compiling kernel sometimes as well.
I also thought, it may be memory, but I tried
memtest program as well as I used the memory on my other
computers with no problem.

So now I am down to either CPUs or the motherboard,
I tried just single CPU (one and then the other)
the problem was still there.

I noticed that once in a while I get the following messages:

APIC error interrupt on CPU#0, should never happen.
... APIC ESR0: 00000000
... APIC ESR1: 00000008
... bit 3: APIC Receive Accept Error.
APIC error interrupt on CPU#1, should never happen.
... APIC ESR0: 0000000a
... APIC ESR1: 0000000a
... bit 1: APIC Receive CS Error (hw problem).
... bit 3: APIC Receive Accept Error.
APIC error interrupt on CPU#1, should never happen.
... APIC ESR0: 00000002
... APIC ESR1: 0000000a
... bit 1: APIC Receive CS Error (hw problem).
... bit 3: APIC Receive Accept Error.
APIC error interrupt on CPU#1, should never happen.
... APIC ESR0: 00000008
... APIC ESR1: 0000000a
... bit 1: APIC Receive CS Error (hw problem).
... bit 3: APIC Receive Accept Error.

This is when running linux 2.3.33 (SMP)

I was hoping that readers of this list might be able
to decode what those messages mean, and help me
to decide what to buy CPUs or the motherboard
to fix this (I got screwed at the computer show
where I bought this stuff).

Thanks in advance,
Vladislav.

PS. This is my first posting to this mailing
list so if I did not specify enough info,
just let me know.
