While this is a bit different from the usual messages sent to these
lists, I hope it will be of interest to some of the readers (I'm fairly
new to the Linux world; if there is a more appropriate mailing list, I'd
be grateful if someone would let me know of it).
-----
I'd like to introduce a research project at ANU, which is now looking at
Linux for high performance SMP & cluster systems.
The CAP Project is a long-term collaborative research program between
the Australian National University and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd, Japan,
now entering its 11th year. It is known for its development of AP/Linux
(http://cap.anu.edu.au/cap/projects/linux/) for the Fujitsu AP+
SuperSparc-based multicomputer.
Recently, its focus has shifted to the analysis and evaluation of the
memory behaviour of current and future shared memory multiprocessors,
and in the optimization of the operating system for these machines.
Systems with a large (eg. >= 64) number of CPUs used for commercial
workloads are of particular interest.
We plan to use (SMP) Linux as the basis for an optimized OS, with
Enterprise servers (UltraSPARC-based) as our initial development
platform. Simulation of both the user and system-level code of relevant
benchmarks is also an important objective of the Project
I am seeking contact with people or groups that are working in the
development/optimization of Linux for SMP (esp. UltraSPARC-based)
systems. We also have 2 RESEARCH PROGRAMMER / SCIENTIST positions
currently being advertised.
For further details, please see the CAP Project web page:
