Sorry I haven't kept up on this list.  Please remember to cc: the kernel
list on problem (like memory detection/setup) which are likely to be
non-SMP.

I do NOT recommend append="mem=384M".  Many systems trim a little off the
top, and if yours is one of them, chaos & madness await you.  Use
append="mem=383M" for safety.  Unless you have built-in video or something,
in which case you need to additionally take off that memory as well.

The short answer is yes, this is a bios problem.  2.3.19 addressed it, we
are still working on handling all contingencies.

The detailed explanation is that there is a new memory reporting system,
unknown to 2.2.x, that is part of ACPI, which is part of PC-99.  Many bios
manufacturers are disabling the old extended memory reporting, which 2.2.x
does know, leaving us with only the ancient standard as the common element.
It's limit is 64M.

Disabling ACPI, which I believe is unsupported in 2.2.x generally, might
enable the old extended memory reporting on some systems.
