I am getting the boot error message about the "unexpected
IO-APIC", which occurs for IO-APIC #2. (with instructions
to mail to this list). I am running RedHat v6.2 (kernel 2.2.14-5.0)
on dual PIIIs.

I see that a number of other people have posted about this
same thing in the last couple of months, but I've never seen
a resolution mentioned for it.

I'm also seeing evidence that interrupts for some PCI cards
are not getting translated correctly. The PCI configuration
reports them on one IRQ, but they actually trigger a different
IRQ.

I'm wondering if these two things might be related, and
if so, how do I fix it?

It seems that all reports show an IO-APIC version number of
0x20, and that they are on fairly new machines. Mine is a
Dell 420, which hasn't been out very long. I don't know what
the version numbers mean, but maybe it is a newer
device that the kernel doesn't handle properly?

I also found the following mentioned in "What's new in V2.3"
(http://www.linuxhq.com/kernel/v2.3/new.html):
"x86 SMP multiple IO-APIC support added".

Could this be a fix for the problem?

Thanks,
Charlie
