Hallo all,

on 24th of may I posted that my network connection was lost during playing
quake3...
Kriss Andsten told me to try "ifconfig" if it occurs again... here it is

While "looking for master server" quake3 died and so the network did. (no
telnet, no ICQ, no www,...)

ifconfig puts the following out:

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
          inet addr:130.75.xxx.xxx Bcast:130.75.255.255 Mask:255.255.0.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:357376 errors:1 dropped:3 overruns:1 frame:0
          TX packets:79048 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
          Interrupt:16 Base address:0xe400

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:3924 Metric:1
          RX packets:72 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:72 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0

...after "ifconfig eth0 up" everything is working again. (ICQ, mail, www,...)
Is this something I should send to Loki Software (Quake3) or who is the man?

Michael

I appended my original post:

While playing Quake3 I got for the second time a "connection interrupted" whichwould
be nothing strage if I had no direct connection.

I'm sitting in the university and my computer (Dual Celeron) has a fixed IP. So
I'm directly connected (Ok, via a Gateway) to the Internet.

The strange thing is.
The network stoped working. I checked this from a windows telnet which lost the
connection to my machine at the same moment as Quake3 did. After Quake got
stucked I pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del to shutdown the X Server. I could restart it
without problem. But neither Netscape nor ICQ ... could connect to somewhere.
In a word: the network was down.

This only happend after upgrading Kernel from 2.2.14 to 2.2.15

After rebooting my machine everything is working.
If this is a bug, how can I give you more information? What should I do if it
happens again (to get more helpful information)?

My config

Dual Celeron450
192MB RAM
Voodoo3 2000 PCI
eth0: RealTek RTL8139 Fast Ethernet at 0xe400, IRQ 16
Realtek driver is compiled into Kernel, not a module

Suse 6.3 with 2.2.15 Kernel, XFree 3.3.6, KDE 1.1.2

Does someboy know a fix for this?

Best regards
Michael
