Yep, after looking at the code a bit more, ip_strms, tells IP that it
is a point to point link.  I need to tell IP that I've got an ethernet
and then it looks like I need to modify the read and write sides to
use the ethernet addresses....

Well, I guess I'll do this after the holidays, have fun and merry
christmas everyone....
