One of the LiS users did this recently. I think that the trick is to set up your kernel source for the ia64 architecture so that all the kernel includes follow that architecture for their header files. I think that is all you have to do and LiS just "notices" the 64-bit header files and proceeds accordingly. I don't think there were very many changes to LiS to make this work.
