Hi,
I am interested in Improving Allwinner SoCs support on mainline
Linux as a part of GSOC-2015.
Last year a similar project was taken by Emilio -
http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/project/details/google/gsoc2014/emilio/5673385510043648
.
As updated on linux-sunxi wiki here,
http://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_mainlining_effort , there are a lot of
unfinished tasks still.
I am not very sure who actually should I contact regarding this project,
so putting this question here.
linux-sunxi has never applied to be a GSoC mentoring organization in the
past, but that could be discussed if there's a will. It'll need to be
done quickly though, as we're currently in the org. application period.
Last year I proposed my project to the Linux Foundation, which was a
participating org, and got to work on it via them. Maxime, part of the
sunxi community, was my mentor. For mainline kernel work, LF is a good
fit for an organization.
If I can be guided about the necessary TODOs that should be taken as the
part of this project, the mentors and guides I should be reaching out
to, I would be grateful.
I don't know if you have any experience collaborating on mainline Linux
or doing kernel development. If you're new to it, I'd suggest taking a
look at the edyptula challenge[1] so you can get to learn the basics -
how to build Linux, make a patch, send it to the corresponding lists, etc.
To work on a project involving sunxi you'll also need sunxi hardware -
and at the same time, that'll limit what you can work on, as not all
devices exist on all SoCs and/or boards - bear that in mind when
choosing a project.
If you want to talk more about this and maybe bounce off some ideas, you
are more than welcome to reach out to us on IRC - we're on #linux-sunxi
on freenode.
Cheers!
Emilio
