Claus has done some effort in this direction. It seem to
work quite well. I am using arkeia with ftape on my ditto 2G
and arkeia is designed for SCSI tapes.
So it seems to me wise to first use the tools
designed/adapted for use with ftape. Then, if you are sure
that everything is ok you can try to use the more generic
tools.
And there remain things that are specific to the design of
floppy tapes due to the different standard QIC-117. I think
floppy tape volume tables are purely specific to floppy
tapes.
Have a look at the ftape-4.x-doc package which contains lots
of information. The MTIO-Interface is documented there.
