Greetings: Been watching the thread and confirm that kernel 2.2.6
will not compile ftape-4.02, getting the same "timeout" as many
others.. Then tried re-compiling the original version, 3.03a that
works with kernel 2.0.36 and it didn't fly either..
Fetched the unstable version 1999_09_11 and it compiled OK...
However the, more or less, standard insmod ftape and insmod zftape
did not work until I added a third entry - insmod ftape-internal..
Then mt was fine with the erase, retension, status, tell arguments.
(My tape drive is an iOmega ditto 420, that works fine both Linux
kernel 2.0.36 and Dos.)
Thought I was home free until I tried the standard backup commands
that worked with the older kernel machines; cpio and tar... NG again:
tar reports "No space left on drive" and cpio with something else I
forgot to document..
The whole operation was started because the Slackware 4.0 default
files didn't work.. I'm going to re load that distrib again to get a
clean slate for some other trys...
