Me too. Works fine.

You're compiling for a 2.2 kernel. You need the latest 'unstable' version,
though don't worry about the name - it's solid. From Tim Jones' message
yesterday:

The drivers are at:

http://www.math1.rwth-aachen.de/~heine/ftape/archives/ftape-4.x/unstable/
  or
ftp://www.estinc.com/pub/linux/

The tools are at:

http://www.math1.rwth-aachen.de/~heine/ftape/archives/ftape-tools/unstable/
  or
ftp://ftp.estinc.com/pub/linux/

The latest release 09-11-1999 is recommended. Personally, I've been using one
from 02-1999 with a hiccup.
