I've been having good luck for about 6 months now with the Aiwa TD-8000,
using TR-4 tapes (4/8 gig).  It's SCSI-interface, though.  Those almost
always work well with Linux.  They might have an ATAPI-interfaced one,
though, you'd have to look.
