I see a similar problem using Openshot 1.4.01 on Linux Mint Debian 64bit. The export seems to work, but there is no update of the progress bar and no indication the export finished. If I cancel after the CPU activity ceases the exported Video (MPEG) seems to be OK. When I exported the video the first time after creating it it worked fine, the progress bar and the dialog closed normal. However, after some modification I tried to export again and this time there is no progress bar etc. MLT is 0.7.4-02 and FFmpeg is 0.8.2-0.0 Python-notify is installed
