It is not *ugly*. At least it is documented. The fact that it is
pretty hard to support this is not relevant.

It is easy to support as soundcard, which is exactly what it is,
right? You can then use it as answering machine.

Or you can write V.34. It is documented. [There are much uglier
winmodems, where you have to reverse-engineer the way to control the
device. I did that with lucent].
