The Extigy sort of works... /dev/dsp works fine, mixer works partly,
MIDI doesn't seem to be recognized.
The mixer stuff is a bit weird, it comes up with 5 mixer devices, the
first has only 'vol' and 'pcm'... pcm works, master vol doesn't seem
to do anything. Then there are 4 more mixer devices with vol, bass,
trebl, pcm, line and mic. These seem to all work except for master
vol (I didn't actually test line and mic) and they all affect the
output when playing through /dev/dsp.
The Extigy seems like a great device. One weird thing is that it
doesn't have any regular analog speaker-pair output, only a headphone,
digital out, and analog 5.1 out. I tried pluggin my analog speaker
pair into the front 5.1 pair output but no sound... maybe it needs
a software setting to enable that. Headphone out works fine.
It has a volume control knob which doesn't seem to do anything on
Linux, probably it's software control for mixer master vol which needs
to be interpreted by the driver. There is also a multi-function
remote control which I suspect also just sends stuff to the
driver... that could be really cool; with a driver that can interpret
the commands it could be used for controlling CD/DVD playback and
other stuff on the computer.
I'd love to get more functionality working with this thing. Anyone
already working on that? Any hints on how to get started? This
weekend I'll hook it up to window box to see what the Creative
supplied driver does... is there some way of capturing the protocol
for reverse engineering?
