Is this like what a Anchor/Cypress chip does after the firmware update
is downloaded into it?  If so, I've seen this work successfully on lots
of different devices on Linux.

Could you try out 2.4.19-pre2, as some startup timings have changed
(hopefully for the better) in the USB probe sequence.
