One might want to.  But then I'd have to start questioning
motives of the questioner ... I don't ever recall anyone on
this list complaining about reads failing for such reasons,
so there's no evidence that's a real problem.

It's not like locking bugs, which give nasty failure modes
like system lockups.  This is a nice clean failure mode,
that's easy to troubleshoot.
