I read your mail and did some testing yesterday. First of all, I could burn a DVD-RW without any problems. Reading large files gives me some I/O errors similar to yours. But after a few minutes I detected the problem. My battery was low (very stupid, I know..). After connecting my laptop to power supply, the error messages didn't occur anymore (another two hours of testing!!). I don't know if this helps you.
