Okay, having just said that this patch wouldn't change anything I now feel like a fool. Doesn't it seem odd that the reaction of the card reader to an INQUIRY would depend on the sequence of commands it received during the _previous_ insertion cycle? Evidently the readers don't fully reinitialize during an unplug-replug. By the way, did you ever observe your problem on the first time you plugged in a reader after cycling its power? _That_ certainly ought to cause a complete reset. I can't imagine the patch affecting the behavior of a card reader immediately after it is powered on.
