Disable that test in hid-core and see if the userspace tools
to manage UPS devices can handle the device.  If not, post
an update including the "lsusb -v" dump of the device
(including the HID descriptors) ... maybe that, and the HID
spec, is all you'd need to figure this out!

If that does work, see what the spec says about that check.
Linux seems to need some small patch.
