To stick the 2.6.11 USB stack into a 2.6.9 kernel:

     1. Just try it and hope it works.  That's what you had in mind.

     2. Go through the patch files for 2.6.10 and 2.6.11 very 
        carefully.  Look for anything that affects the way the
        USB stack relates to the rest of the kernel.  This includes
        calls made from within the USB stack to services provided
        elsewhere.  Accept the changes that will work okay in a
        2.6.9 environment and rewrite the changes that won't work.
