Yes, mainline stops resubmitting as soon as it sees the error. However, Alan was right about one thing: the -84 can happen for a reason other than a disconnect (I'm really curious if he actually saw it happening, or just specualted). So, I was concerned that the patch may cause a regression for someone who has a hardware which throws such an error from time to time.
