Hi,
I'm using a 2.6.11.12 kernel. And I'd like to know where I can find
information or if you can help me yourself to make work my USB
ports on a motherboard which has a VIA chipset, KT266/A/333.
Normally, when I connect an external hd via USB, in /dev, sdaX
should be created, since I ins!alled hotplug and udev. But it
doesn't. Here's what I set in the kernel, about USB:
Support for Host-side USB
USB device filesystem
EHCI HCD (USB 2.0) support
Full speed ISO transactions
Root Hub Transaction Translators
OHCI HCD support
UHCI HCD (most Intel and VIA) support
USB Mass Storage support
USB Mass Storage verbose debug
Freecom USB/ATAPI Bridge support
USB Human Interface Device (full HID) support
HID input layer support
/dev/hiddev raw HID device support
/dev/hiddev raw HID device support

Here's too what I set for SCSI:
legacy /proc/scsi/ support
SCSI disk support
SCSI generic support

I built also VIA82CXXX chipset support in section
ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support

But with that, I can't make my USB work.
lspci says:
00:00.0 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8366/A/7 [Apollo
KT266/A/333]
00:01.0 PCI bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8366/A/7 [Apollo
KT266/A/333 AGP]

In my BIOS, onchip USB Controller in "integrated peripherals" is "all
enabled".
lspci -v|grep USB says:
00:11.2 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82xxxxx UHCI USB 1.1
Controller
(rev 1b) (prog-if 00 [UHCI])
Subsystem: VIA Technologies, Inc. (Wrong ID) USB Controller
00:11.3 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82xxxxx UHCI USB 1.1
Controller
(rev 1b) (prog-if 00 [UHCI])
Subsystem: VIA Technologies, Inc. (Wrong ID) USB Controller
00:11.4 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82xxxxx UHCI USB 1.1
Controller
(rev 1b) (prog-if 00 [UHCI])
Subsystem: VIA Technologies, Inc. (Wrong ID) USB Controller

To finish with my system configuration, lshw displays about USB:
*-usb:0 UNCLAIMED

I said all what my system has. Other info: I checked my hd on a
computer with a knoppix, with a different motherboard, and it works.
So, there must be a problem between my VIA card and the kernel.
My /proc/bus/usb stays empty. I have in fstab:
none /proc/bus/usb usbfs defaults 0
0

I mounted manually the fs:
mount -t usbfs none /proc/bus/usb

But /proc/bus/usb stays empty, even after I plugged again my hd.
Could you explain me why kernel doesn't
seem to see USB? Where can be the problem? Because physically, I don't
think there's a problem, since USB is integrated on the motherboard.
Should I build a newer kernel? Can I ask to another ML, instead of
disturbing you? Is it a problem to build OHCI AND UHCI, maybe one
single controller is better? Aren't there any conflicts?
I wonder if the kernel supports correctly VIA chipset, USB support.

Could you give me your opinion? Thanks very much for your help. You
can answer me personally at [EMAIL PROTECTED], but I think
archives will giveme also your answers.

Thanks foryour help and sorry to disturb you.

Sincerely,
JP
