What are the kernel messages that are shown when this happens? On my laptop, SATA is timing out and taking about 2 minutes to detect an empty slot for my controller. It has nothing to do with USB. > lsusb also hangs. Hang how? sysrt-t for that? > This is new in 2.6.18, I could bisect it if need be.
