I'm sorry to report, this will trip ub as well as usb-storage.
Your only chance is to exclude partitioning methods from the
kernel until you find the one which causes this. EFI used to be
the mail culprit. Matt Domsch supposedly fixed it, but I saw the
patch, and it does read the last sector sometimes even now.
