(Note that contrary to your Subject line, the USB controller here is 
EHCI -- not UHCI.)

This isn't much information.  You should build a kernel with 
CONFIG_USB_DEBUG turned on and then see what shows up in the dmesg log 
instead of /var/log/messages.
