I'm trying to connect an HP PSC-750 USB printer to my PC with
an UHCI USB interface. (Its an older Pentium MMX motherboard
with an intel piix4(?) chipset).
There appears to be a startup race condition because sometimes
I can turn on the printer and then start the print software
(hpoj.sourceforge.net) and everything works. Other times, I
repeat the same process and get timeout errors. When this occurs
I kill all the relevant processes and restart them and after
a trial or two, I get the printer back online again.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? And, is anyone working
on it? I have a fair amount of kernel hacking experience myself
(in the VPN space) so I'd be happy to try some experiments if
someone can give me a pointer in the right direction. I'd rather
not try to debug this from scratch because I don't know the USB
code at all...
Thanks,
Ben McCann
