Are you sure that you have the Microlink 56k USB (blue&white case) and not the Microlink 56k Fun USB (red transparent case)? The Microlink 56k USB is the older model and works under Linux, it is even certfied by SUSE (http://www.suse.de/de/services/certified_hardware/manufacturers/elsa/rfsl_hardware/microlink56usb.html).
