I bought one of these simple (box, one chip, one power supply) devices and threw a spare IDE 3.5" drive in it.
When I plug it in, the USB drivers in the kernel recognise it and can tell me it's using 8070i as its transport (not transparent SCSI). I get SCSI complaining about unknown device type -1 whenever I attempt to access it under sd_mod or sg. It shows up in /proc/scsi/usb-storage-0/0. /proc/scsi/scsi exists but has non of the fields filled in (apart from a few ?'s). No real SCSI devices in the box. Kernel 2.4.17. Same with usb-uhci and uhci modules. Also get a kernel oops on shutdown (will do a ksymoops on it tonight) if I've attempted to access the device. Is there a guide to how to derive the magic numbers in unusual_devs.h? I'm happy to patch/compile/report back anything anyone can suggest.
