I had an Iomega 650 CD-RW until it died probably due to heat overload as the closed case has no ventelation and there is no power button on the front of the unit and I left it on all the time and it does get hot here in summer.
My suggestions are. 1) Each time you burn a CD try disconnecting and dropping power to the Zip CD and then burn another CD. My guess is that this may well mean that you get past your 3rd CD 2) The Zip CD 650 is actually an Iomega IDE CD-RW drive with a USB to IDE adaptor stuck on the back and then put in a case. The interesting thing is that if you visit the iomega website there are software updates available for their IDE CDRW drives (the one that is actually inside the Zip CD 650). I guess that because there is no way to actually update the firmware in the ZIP CD iomega just figured that it probably didn't matter. I don't know if the firmware updates will help you but if you are willing to unclip your case using a thin screwdriver and finding the right bits of internal plastic to push it would be worth a try (assuming you have an IDE computer you can plug it into). 3) Buy another CD-RW. After my Zip CD broke I went and bought an LG IDE CDRW and a USB to IDE adaptor and have not had any problems with it at all with the exception that I am using a cheap 4 port hub which has a tendency to disable and reconnect devices every now and again. That can cause some problems but the CD-RW and USB to IDE adaptor have been great and were considerably cheaper than a USB CDRW. -- Best Regards, David Price ---------------------------------------- On Wed, 20 Mar 2002 23:40, you wrote: > Hi, > > When burning cd's with the Iomega 650 CD-RW the first two cd's almost > allways burn until completed, but the third often (perhaps always) stops > burning in the middle of the process.
