My laptop has problems with high current bus powered devices (like a CDC ACM modem), and maybe you are seeing similar problems? What happens if you run it through a powered hub? Try: 1. Plugging device into hub, and then plugging hub into laptop 2. Plugging hub into laptop, and then plugging device into hub.
