So what you've got is a really long cable, a keyboard (with hub?) and then the 
mouse. If the mouse doesn't work, you probably have a current supply (or 
maybe voltage drop) problem.

Extension cables are pretty evil. Does everything work without the extension 
cable?

BTW: Last time I emailed you, it bounced with a "box A points back to box B" 
error. If that happens again, I'll stop bothering to mail.
