Not sure I understand your first question. The modules.usbmap file
consists of a very long list, and no "printer" appears in it. Does
this imply a usb module is not loaded that should be?

The answer to your second question is, nothing at all. The /devices
directory is empty.

Not sure what a "class 7" printer is, or how I'd know. 

As for hotplug,

   # hotplug help
   AgentName values on this system:  ieee1394 net pci usb

I have a /etc/hotplug/usb.agent script and a /sbin/hotplug script. But
when I run the latter with the arguemnt, status or usb, nothing is
returned (I don't know anything about hotplug).
