Ok, I installed another usb 2.0 card into my machine (same chipset). If I connect my usb 2.0 hub to that controller and I only load the ehci-hcd module - I don't get any dropped frames when capturing dv. It would seem to be a problem with having both the firewire and usb chips on the same card.
