If it just needs a line in unusual-devs.h then your kernel can do it now.
You just have to edit that file to add the line and then recompile the kernel.
It's what I had to do for a Fuji FinePix 2800 Zoom (well I had to upgrade to
kernel 2.4.19 too... :)
