Hi, i'm not subscribed to this list so if you could be sure to CC replies to my address (dconti at acm.wwu.edu) i would be appreciative.
I have a basic mandrake 8.2 installation (kernel 2.4.18-6mdk) and a sandisk cf/smartmedia reader (SDDR-75, shows up as vendor 0781 prod 0810 rev 1.00). i can mount a CF card, ls, umount with no problems. when i try to dd if=/dev/sda of=some_local_file, i get the following single message in my syslog: Jan 1 07:47:48 box kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout the odd parts are as follows: 1) once this whole process worked. i was able to dd out a 64mb image onto a card i have 2) when it fails, 'dd' goes into state D and never returns. i have to reboot to access my cf reader again. 3) when it fails, 'dd' has always copied the same amount of data from the drive, 204800 bytes (exactly 400 sectors) this isn't specific to dd, at one point i had a failure in the middle of a write on a disk, so i rebooted my machine and ran fsck, and it hung on that too. hardware wise, i have an asus a7n-266vm (nvidia nforce 220, ohci). i get the same behavior on 2 of the usb busses, and dont have the third connected to test. please let me know what additional information i need to supply, if any. thanks in advance, -Dan ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe, use the last form field at: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linux-usb-users
