Hi Folks

I have a suse 8.1 disto. Sony Vaio R600HMPD laptop + docking station.
My usb-floppy works with the original 2.4.19 distro kernel. However, other
stuff doesn't.

So I started with a vanilla 2.4.20 distro, added the acpi and swsusp
patches. (acpi:20021205+appropriate swsusp). My kernel config
is at
http://home.badc.rl.ac.uk/lawrence/linux/jan02-b2.config

At this stage, provided I start with only my usb mouse nad keyboard,
I have a working usb mouse, and the sony memorystick
is recognised at boot (not that I have one to play with).

If I boot with the usb-floppy plugged in at boot, with a disk in
the drive, the device is recognised, and the boot proceeds to
discover it, then the sony memory stick, then hang with
usb-uhci.c interrupt, status 3, frame #679 then #439 and lots more.
If I remove it, we then get a bunch more error messages
about block-major-114 (which may be a red herring),
and then by the time we get to X, my usb
mouse and keyboard don't work. My only option to get usb mouse
and keyboard back is to power down, *remove & replace the battery
as well*, and then reboot without the floppy plugged in.

With no disk in the drive we get a different set of messages
(but including the block-major 114), and the same no keyboard+mouse.

If I don't boot with the usb plugged in, it boots normally, and
the usb keyboard and mouse work. However, the floppy doesn't
hotplug at all (in fact, nothing seems to - I tried a printer
and a compact flash card).

I've not changed any of the other config files (modules.conf etc).

My kernel compile sequence etc can be found at
http://home.badc.rl.ac.uk/lawrence/linux/laptop.html. I believe
it all works ok, and i've loaded the modules etc. However, I suspect
my modules.conf may no longer be appropriate.

Can anyone give me any advice on this?

Thanks in advance,
Bryan
