Just got an Epson 1260 scanner, and it works a treat with their iscan S/W on my RH8.0 box.

I was hoping to run a hacky little script at start-up that watched for some (any) activity on the bus that would [probably] indicate that I'd pressed the stuffing great 'GO' button, and then launch iscan or gimp.

But, even after I've loaded the scanner module, and the thing's worked, cat /dev/usb/scanner0 )(od -c, in fact) doesn't seem to be giving me anything when I hammer the buttons.

How much more complicated is it than I envisaged?
