Is it the same logical device? Sending unsolicited vendor specific information 
on the same endpoint as the HID information sounds like a bad design 
decision.

No, but hiddev and the input layer do. Plus you can talk directly to the 
device using /proc/bus/XXX/YYY type device nodes.

I've published code before that uses libusb to talk to some logitech mice. I 
can send it again if you can't locate it.
